German M 1888 commision rifle / German M1871/84 rifle. Portuguese serial number removed from crossguard. Portuguese flower mark on ricasso. Excellent bright finished fullered yatagan blade with Austrian makers name and date: Steyer 1886 on the blade spine. Bright finished pommel and crossguard. Catch replaced. Replacing marked with another German (Gothic) inspection marking on the pommel. Left crossguard is German unit marked: R. R. 6. 13. (= 6th Reserve Infantry Regiment ). Reverse side shows a Portuguese flower mark. Pommel with T-slot is marked with a crisp German(Gothic) inspection marking!. Muzzle ring with cock comb and quillon: MRD inside enlarged to 17,5 mm. Excellent wooden grips riveted to the blade tang. Excellent blued steel scabbard with user spurs and two small dents only near the tip. Serial number marked: A 902
Comes in its Excellent unmarked brown Austrian M 1895 leather frog as found. (AC 29)
Extremely rare German altered, inspection marker marked and German unit marked Portuguese M 1886 Kropatcheck bayonet. Used by the German troops ( Landsturm and Ersatz troops) during WWI.
Anthony Carter reports in his book: German Bayonets, Volume III, page 281 " No example has been recorded or identified with German markings"
Roy Williams describes this bayonet in his book: The Collectors book of German Bayonets 1680-1945, Part two, page 605 -608 only two German unit marked examples, but none with German inspection markings!
