Description

French produced military trench periscope. Serial number: No. 51/2314 on the prisma joint. The prisma box is further marked with the French makers trademark and name: SRPI over PUTEAU in a box,  M. G.MILLIEMES and Gl 6X. Flexible hollow wooden handgrip, allowing to mount the scope on a pole or tripod.
The periscope is adjustable in length from 49 till 65 cm. and the periscope pipe can be turned in different directions, giving it an overview.
This periscope is in an excellent working order with a very bright vision. It magnifies 6 times and there is a distance meter in the scope.
It contains ca. 80 % of its original green paint.

These handy trench scopes were made during and after WWI. During the German occupation of France in WWII, the Germans took over the production.
Last picture shows a German soldier using the periscope during WWII.

Rare and curious item.
