French M 1831 Foot Artillery short sword. Serial number: 324 on crossguard. Superb bright finished plain double edged blade. French makers name TALABOT-PARIS and French inspection marking * R * in an oval on the ricasso. Excellent Roman style massive and heavy one piece ribbed brass grip with round pommel. Brass straight crossguard with 2 round finished quillons. An Excellent black tooled stiff leather scabbard with all stitches in tact and brass mounts with no dents. Top mount with serial number: 1177, Chape with inspection marking: 97 in an oval and the black leather body with a hard to read makers mark: MANCHEAL over A. PARIS in an oval. Finial with an E in a shield.
