Description

"Nederlands Burgerwacht sabel, rond 1820 of eerder" / Dutch Home Guard short sword, ca. 1820 or earlier . Excellent bright finished shortened blade with a narrow fuller running to the tip. One piece cast brass hilt with a single knuckle bowl. Grip with 9 ribs and a nut on top of the pommel. Back of hilt is unit marked: C  No. 28.
Excellent altered M 1819 No.2 tooled dark brown to black leather scabbard. Steel finial fixed by a wire winding. Leather throat with a cuff and an intact retaining strap for a sword frog. Leather body is marked; 543  204 and 1150.

This is a converted Dutch Infantry M 1807 No.1. short sword. After this model was replaced by the M 1819 No. 2 short sword, many were converted by shortening and issued to the Home guard.
Total length: 61 cm. Blade length: 48 cm. Width at the ricasso: 3,4 cm.

A very interesting and rare Dutch Home Guard short sword.
