Dutch rapier around 1625, reproduction made around 1880 for stage purpose. Excellent very long bright finished double edged blade with German makers trademark: Knight helmet and Kings head over W.K.& C (= Weyersberg & Kirschbaum and Co.- Solingen ) on the ricasso. Some small stains to the blade only. Dutch retailers name and residence: S. DE JAGER- HAARLEM in a box on the revers side.
Beautiful detachable brass hilt with a round wooden grip with brass twisted wire winding. Brass urn shape pommel. Brass hand guard with two side bars. Crossguard a forward swept quillon and a complex finger guard. Red washer intact.
Excellent black tooled leather scabbard with brass fittings. No dents to the fittings. Top mount with round frog stud. One knick in the leather scabbard and all stitches intact.
A true curiosity in an excellent condition! This very well made around 1880 made reproduction is based on a rapier model of around 1625.
Stage swords were made between 1845 and 1920. The last picture shows the front page of the brochure out of 1890 of the retailer S. De Jager of Haarlem, showing this particular model(Model no. 7 in de circle.)
S. de Jager -Haarlem was a well known Dutch sword maker for the Dutch army and the Police.
This sword could be used as a very special and antique reenactment rapier!
