Dutch ca. 1845 Cavalry officers Mameluke sword by J.F. SEEGERS-Breda (JP 87-142)
Nederlandse officiers Mamelukkensabel ca, 1830 / Dutch Cavalry officers Mameluke sword around 1830. Excellent bright finished curved (scimitar) blade with beautiful, but fainting gild and blue etchings on both sides of the blade. Different etchings show military trophees and floral motives. Dutch retailers name only, no residence on the spine which was Breda: J. F. SEEGERS on the blade spine Excellent and sharp clip point. Beautiful P-shaped grip, made from polished steel and two scales of ivory . "Eye" in the top for a sword knot. Steel crossguard with languets on both sides and a forward and a backward swept quillion with acorn final. Hilt is compleet with its original steel hand guard chain.
Excellent all metal scabbard with two loose hanging rings is showing no dents.

Absolutely a very rare and seldom found officers sword. This model was "trendy" between 1830 and 1860. It was used mainly by high rank officers of the Cavalry but also by Home Guard officers. This particular example must have been made around 1845.
This is the first time we have found one. Beautiful example!!
