German M 1884/98 bayonet, 2nd model, by W.u.K, 1930. (ABCN453-7)(K0)(JN0))
Mauser M98 rifle. Excellent blued fullered blade with a crisp German maker's trademark; W.u.K. (= Weyersberg und Kirschbaum- Solingen).
Blade spine is dated:(19) 30. and a Drop wing Eagle over 46. Blued crossguard and pommel with T-O slot. Crossguard is marked with a Drop wing Eagle over 46. Pommel is Waffenambt marked with a single Drop wing Eagle over 46. and a Wehrmacht (Nazi) Eagle stamp. Slotted catch. Excellent wooden grips secured to the blade tang by two slotted screw bolts. Hilt with a new type flash guard marked with a Wehrmacht Waffenambt stamp.
Excellent and correct blued steel unmarked scabbard. Frog stud is marked F 32. No serieus dents.
These M 84/98 2nd Model, only made by W.U.K. and dated 27, 29 or 30 bayonets, are more or less the prototypes for the later 3rd Model 84/98 "Dritte Reich" bayonets. These were made after WWI, between 1927 and 1930 (Weimar Republic) in very small numbers only. They have features both from the 2nd model and the 3rd model. This one was got a later Nazi Waffenambt stamp.
