German Mauser M 1898 Rifle and Carbine.  M 98/05. Second type bayonet. Excellent+ bright finished fullered "Butcher" blade. Very crisp German makers trade mark and name: Two crossed keys and F. HERDER a Sn. over SOLINGEN on the ricasso. The reverse side is marked: Crown over AMBERG. Bavarian cypher; Crown over L ( = King Ludwig III 1913-1918 ) over date: 15 with a Gothic inspection marking on the blade spine. There is also a serial number? on the blade spine: 296 
Excellent blued pommel, flash guard, crossguard and quillon. Two Bavarian inspection markings on the pommel. Excellent ribbed wooden grips with the typical round oil hole for this model. T-O slot in pommel. Flash guard with no dents. 
Excellent blackened scabbard with no serieus dents.

Bavarian M 1898/05 bayonets are quite rare!
