"Politie sabel van de Gemeente Politie Kapel, Amsterdam. ca. 1900". / Dutch Amsterdam Municipal Police bandsman short sword, around 1900. Superb straight bright finished fullered pointed blade. German maker's trademark of E. &. F. HÖRSTER - SOLINGEN on the ricasso. Leather washer intact. Excellent massive cast hilt with 6 fine ribs in Berlin-silver. Excellent Berlin-silver crossguard with two opposite quillons with flower motives finals. Excellent black leather scabbard with clear tooling. All stitches intact and the Berlin-silver mounts with no dents. Top mount with a triangle shaped frog stud.
Comes with its correct ceremonial white leather frog as found
Hard to find Dutch bandsman police short sword in an Excellent+ condition. Used only by drummers and horn blowers in the band. Other musicians of the band carried a spadroon. Early model, around 1900. Municipal Police officer's swords were used from 1850 - ca. 1950.
