Early Dutch Naval boarding sword M 1818 No.2 / Scheepssabel No. 2.(JP 74-3)
"Nederlands scheepssabel No.2, M 1818 "/ Dutch M 1818 Naval boarding sword No.2. Excellent- bright finished curved fullered very heavy blade. The blade shows fine graying /peppering and user spurs, but no serieus pitting. On both sides of the blade there is a crisp and large Naval anchor engraved. Blade spine is marked with a very fine Dutch inspection marking: Crown over L.
Excellent+ one piece cast brass hilt with a single knuckle guard and a guillon with a short ball shaped finial. Ribbed grip. The back of is hilt shows a small rack number: 62
Excellent+ and correct black leather scabbard with characteristic brass fittings. Stitching intact. Typical early type brass top fitting and brass chape with two horizontal lines. Both fittings are marked: Crown over GD. No dents to the fittings.
The Dutch M 1818 No.2 Naval boarding sword was a Dutch assembled M 1803 French briquet. It differs from the Dutch M 1819 infantry short sword in details. It has a curved fullered heavy blade and not a plain straight blade. There is no acorn final on the guillon. This is the early version with a more heavy blade and a characteristic scabbard fittings. Later types are less heavy and have a different scabbard.
Total length: 80 cm. Width at the ricasso: 3,7 cm
These are quite rare and hard to find. Special with its scabbard.
