Dutch M 1898. Earliest model Marechaussee cutlass/klewang by P. D. Luneschloss -Solingen, as used by the KNIL. (JP 94/158)

"Nederlands Sabel Marechaussee M 1898 klewang, vroegste model zoals gebruikt bij het KNIL "/ Dutch M 1898 Marechaussee cutlass / klewang. Earliest model as used by the KNIL.(= Royal Dutch Indies Army). Excellent bright finished fullered klewang blade with a clip point, showing light graying only. The ricasso is marked with the German makers name: P. D. LÜNESCHLOSS - SOLINGEN. The reverse is marked with a Dutch inspector mark: Crown over B. Excellent+ blued steel hilt with a knuckle guard and 3 side bars. Excellent+ one piece blackened wood grip with 7 ribs. Steel ferule is also marked: Crown over B as well as the back of the hilt: Crown over B. Sword knot slit in the knuckle guard near the pommel. A transverse slot for a leather finger loop in the top of the guard. The blade tang is attached to the top of the hilt by a Dutch inspector marked small nut screw.

Excellent++ and correct M1911 tooled brown leather scabbard with all stitches intact. Short brass chape with two staples on each side and no dents. The leather scabbard body is marked near the throat: C W over N over date: 7 -'13 over GM.  The frog retaining strap is cut off for use of the klewang with an officers Sam Browne belt. 

This is the earliest M 1898 model with a bright finished blade and a transverse slot for a leather finger loop in the guard. (Note: A leather finger loop was never fitted to the M 1898 model!) 
Some M 1898 klewang models like this one, were later, around 1905, modified by making the hilt detachable by replacing the pommel rivet by a nut screw on the top of the hilt.
The brown leather M1911 scabbard is a pre-WWII war replacement. This is common. In the tropical climate of Indonesia is was necessary to replace the leather scabbards frequently.
