"Nederlands Infanterie (Fuselier) Officierssabel M 1897"/ Dutch infantry (Fuselier) officers sword M 1897. Superb bright finished long, straight and narrow fusilier style quilback blade. Left side of the blade is marked with the Dutch proof mark YZERHOUWER in a scroll. (Hard to read!)No makers name. Washer intact. Excellent+ chromium plated steel pierced hand guard with 5 bars, engraved with flower motives. Detachable hilt with a ribbed one piece dark brown horn grip with an intact brass twisted wire winding.
Excellent chromium plated steel scabbard with a single loose hanging ring and no dents.
Comes with its Excellent and genuine Dutch M 1854 Infantry officers sword knot as found.
Made after 1900 and before 1912.
Total Length: 101 cm. Blade width: 1,8 cm! only, measured at the ricasso.

This Infantry officers sword was adopted in 1897 and was already replaced in 1912 by a complete different model: M 1912 infantry officers sword. It still has a ceremonial function for officers of the Dutch Princes Irene brigade. A Dutch infantry regiment, founded in England during WWII and active during and after D-day for the liberation of occupied Europe.
