Dutch Military cornet by C. MAHILLON, unit marked.
Dutch Military cornet. This is a beautiful military used cornet, made by the respected Belgian company C. MAHILLON of Brussels and was used by the Dutch 3rd. Regiment Hussars and is also marked.
The cornet is maker marked: D over an Israeli star, C. MAHILLON, FOURNISSEUR BREVETE DE L'ARMEE ET DES CONSERVERTOIRES BRUXELLES. (= C. Mahillon of Brussels-Belgium, Qualified Outfitter for armies and Conservatoria.)
There is a beautiful Dutch Royal Crest in silver welted to the cornet. This is the Dutch Royal Crest with three crowned lions and : JE MAINTENDRAI in a scrol.
This Royal Crest was replaced in 1907 by a crest with only one crowned lion (in the center).
On the right side of the horn there is a silver badge welted with the inscription: 3 R. H. over 15 (= 3rd Regiment Hussars, 15th battalion).
The company C. Mahillion of Brussels-Belgian was founded in 1856 and was taken over and changed its name in 1935. This famous company delivered music instruments to many armies in Europe, including to the Netherlands.
The Royal Crest on the cornet shows three crowned lions as used before 1907
The Dutch 3rd. Regiment Hussars was formed in 1867. So this cornet must have been made between 1867 and 1907
Very nice and interesting item!
