Dutch framed print by F. VAN DE WEG. Beautiful Dutch framed print showing a low flying squadron of at least 15 British AVRO Lancaster bombers dropping food near the river Rotte close to Rotterdam.
There are dike and farm houses, a ship and even a Dutch windmill visible in the print. All very well done!
The print is signed with the artist name: VAN DE WEG and is named on the left side: "HET UITWERPEN VAN VOEDSEL BOVEN NEDERLAND" (= Dropping food above the Nederlands) and on the right side it is dated: "ROTTERDAM. MEI 1945" (= Rotterdam May 1945) The R.A.F. did humanitarian food drops between April 29 and May 7 - 1945. In this period the western part of the Netherlands (Holland) was still occupied by German troops. This operation was called : Operation Manna.
The same print you can find in the collection of the Dutch War Museum, but there is not much information you can find about this print on the internet. It is clearly not printed in large numbers.
Frame work is very simple: Glass in a thin light wooden frame. The condition of the print is Excellent.
