Dutch M 1905 No. 2. (Old Model) Marechaussee cutlass/klewang as used by the KNIL(JP 94/158)

"Nederlands Sabel Marechaussee M 1905 OM. (Oud Model) No. 2 als gebruikt bij het KNIL "/ Dutch M 1905 Old Model Number 2. Marechaussee cutlass / klewang as used by the KNIL.(= Royal Netherlands Indie Army)  Rack number: 208. on the back of the hilt.  Very good+ bright finished fullered klewang blade with clip point showing some stains and user spurs only. The ricasso is marked with a faint Dutch makers trade name: HEMBRUG in small letters. The reverse is faint marked with a Dutch inspector mark: Crown over B. Wide open blued steel hand guard. Ferule is Dutch marked: Crown over B. One piece, a bit worn, darkened wooden grip with 7 ribs  Sword knot slit in the upper part of the guard. Nut screw.
There is a rectangular brass plate attached to the inside of the hilt marked: P. A. I. over 208 (= Police Corps of Madioen and Ponorogo (Indonesia), Weapon 208 ) The outside of the hilt shows a number: 2
Very good later (M1931) very supple black leather scabbard with clear tooling. All stitches intact. Long dented brass chape with two brass staples on each side. Scabbard throat is reinforced by a brass clip. 

This is a used early M 1905 model with a bright finished Dutch made blade and a ribbed wooden grip.
Around 1905 the M 1898 klewang was modified by making the hilt detachable by a nut screw on the top of the hilt and omitting the slot for a finger loop in the guard. This new model was called M 1905
The black leather 1931 scabbard is a pre-WWII replacement. This is common. In the tropical climate of Indonesia is was necessary to replace the leather scabbards frequently.
