French M 1866 Chassepot bayonet, by MUTZIG Arsenal (ABC N 1778-2 )(K460) (JN69-1)

Chassepot M 1866 rifle. Serial number: D 186486 on the crossguard. Excellent fullered bright finished yataghan blade marked with French maker mark and date:  Mr'e. Imp ale de Mutzig bre. 1867  (= Made by the Imperial Mutzig Arsenal, October 1867) crisp on the blade spine. Right ricasso with two French inspection markings Crown over C in a vertical oval. Revers is marked : R. Excellent+ brass grip with blued spring. Bright finished crossguard with guillion and muzzle ring. MRD: 17.5 mm. 3 French inspection markings on the left side of the quillon. Tightening screw on top of the muzzle ring
Excellent- bright finished steel scabbard with a couple of small dents only. Serial number: H 95407. 

Chassepot bayonets, made by the Mutzig arsenal are not common. This one is made in the Imperial era and has an early date: 1867
