Austro-Hungarian Ersatz M88/90, 90, 90/95 bayonet(ABCN441-4)(K0)(JN12-1*)
Austrian Mannlicher rifles M 1888, 88-90, 90-95. Ersatz bayonet. Excellent but very crudely made double edged blade with no markings. The blade is 90º twisted to the right. Blackened flat tang with a hook shaped "crossguard" with rounded muzzle ring (MRD 16,4 mm )attached by two round rivets. The crossguard hook is stamped with a tiny Hungarian Crest and a Sunburst stamp. The flat leave spring underneath the tang has a square edge and is also hold by the two rivets holding the crossguard. The leave spring is as long as the hilt.
Comes with its correct and black painted Austrian scabbard having a riveted frog stud marked with an Austrian Crest. Correct no finial and some small dents and user spurs only.
One of the many interesting variations of the Austro-Hungarian made Ersatz bayonets of WWI.
According to Jerry Janzen in its book "Janzen's Notebook", page 12 * this is a Mauser variation which fits the German M1871 and M1871/84 rifle. We doubt if this is correct since the MRD of the German M1871 bayonet is 17,5 mm.
Very interesting Austro-Hungarian ersatz bayonet.
