Mexican M 1870 Remington bayonet (ABCN1394-1)(K679)(JN0)
Remington M 1870 rifle and/or carbine. Excellent bright finished fullered yatagan blade. No markings. Beautiful cast brass "feathered" grip. Pommel with a naval anchor with two crossed cannons in circle on both sides. The pommel has an opening for the cleaning rod and a rather complex mortise slot.
Brass crossguard with a muzzle ring, MRD: 19.7 mm. and a quillon with a round finial.
Excellent black leather scabbard with brass fittings and a round frog stud to the top mount. All stitches intact. There are some shallow indentations to the top mount only. No dents to the chape.
It is believed that only 1.000 US M 1870 Marine bayonets were produced by Remington with yatagan blades and than sold to Mexico. Some were also marked R.M.(= Republica Mexicana)
A very interesting and rare bayonet, seldom encountered.
