Dutch Cavalry officers sword M 1895 No.3 by P. MANSVELD & ZOON.- 's GRAVENHAGE. (JP 90-150)

"Cavalerie Officierssabel M 1895", Lange sabel No.3./  Dutch Cavalry officers sword M 1895. "Long sword" No.3. Superb bright finished steel fullered curved long blade. The German makers trademark on the ricasso: Kings head and Knight helmet over W.K. & Co. (=Weyersberg & Kirschbaum- Solingen. Trade mark used from 1883 -1918) and a Dutch retailers name and residence on the left blade side: P. MANSVELT & ZOON. over 's GRAVENHAGE in a scroll on the left side of the blade. (= Pieter Mansveld and Son, Denneweg 12, The Hague. 1799-1960). The right side is marked with the Dutch proof mark: YZERHOUWER in a scroll. 
Excellent- large chromium plated pierced bowl hand guard with 7 bars showing light wear to the plating. Beautiful floral motives engraved to the outside of the guard. Excellent plated pommel. Detachable hilt with an Excellent ribbed black composite grip and an intact silver wire winding. 
Excellent- plated steel scabbard with a single loose hanging ring. Some light wear yo the plating only but no dents.
Comes with its Excellent and genuine M 1854 Dutch officers sword knot as found. Silver acorn with a silver stam, a black cord and an orange core.
Total length 105,5 cm.!  Width at the ricasso: 2,1 cm.
Made around 1900.

This model was made and used for a very short time only. It was already replaced in 1912 by the adoption of the M 1912 standard Lion head pommel officers sword (wandelsabel) for all Dutch officers of any rank.
It was also used by Dutch mounted Police officers.
