French M 1801 (An IX) Post-Napoleonic infantry troopers short sword by VERSAILLES arsenal. Unit marked.

French M 1801 (An IX) infantry troopers short sword. Excellent bright finished long plain blade with a few dings to the blade edge only. Blade spine is very crisp maker marked:  Manufacture Imp.le de Klingenthal, Janvier 1817.  (= Imperial Arsenal of Klingenthal - Alsace January 1817) The left ricasso is crisp stamped with three French inspector stamps: Crown over K in a circle (= Director J. I. Krantz 1812-1816),  B with in a  wreth in a circle (= Inspector J.G. Bick 1793-1809) and L in a circle (= Revisor F. L. Lobstein 1804-1820).
The right ricasso is unit marked: 5E  L on over 56(= 5e Line Regiment, weapon 56). 

Excellent heavy one piece brass hilt with a single hand guard and a forward swept quillon.  Grip with 28 fine ribs. Crosguard is B marked. back of the hilt shows some small indentations only. Left side of the hand guard is maker marked: VERSAILLES (= Versailles Arms Manufacture.- Director Nicolas Noel Boutet 1804- 1818 ) and shows two more French inspection markings: N and a *B marking.

No scabbard.

This French Infantry troopers short sword is assembled at the Versailles Arsenal, based in a wing of the Versailles Palais in Paris from 1793 till August 1818. The blade was made at the Arsenal of Klingenthal in the Alsace. All done shortly after the fall of the empire.
