Swiss M 1878 bayonet by S.J.G. NEUHAUSEN, converted to side arm. Unit marked.(ABCN1238-1) (K372) (JN185-2)
No rifle, M1878 bayonet converted to a side arm. No serial number. Very good long bright finished 49 sharp teeth sawback blade with fuller on one side only. The fullered side shows a couple of spots with very light pitting only. Swiss maker's name: S. J. G. NEUHAUSEN in small letters to the ricasso. Bright finished pommel and crossguard. MRD 18 mm. Crossguard is unit marked: K. 86. Muzzle ring with "ears". Mortise slot is deactivated and the push button is filed flush with the pommel. Swiss cross over C in an oval stamp on the straight quillon.
Excellent brown checkered grips, riveted to tang with 4 rivets .
Excellent and correct early M 1878/M1887 black leather scabbard, all stitches intact. Bright finished metal fittings. Top mount is marked: 12 and the throat also unit marked: 86. Chape with 4 horizontal lines on the front.
Comes with its correct early dark brown leather frog with Swiss makers name; R. BILLETER over MAENNEDORF and date 1886 in a stamp on the reverse side.
Rare unit marked Swiss M 1878 Pioneer bayonet converted to a side arm. Prob. for a NCO. Not a side arm made for musicians since it has "ears" on the muzzle ring
