"Nederlands scheepssabel No.2, M 1818 "/ Dutch M 1818 Marine boarding sword No.2. Excellent- bright finished curved fullered heavy blade.
Excellent one piece cast brass hilt with a single hand guard and a guillon with a short ball shaped finial. Ribbed grip. Right crossguard is stamped with a small Navy anchor. The hand guard is marked with a Dutch inspection marking: NS.
Total length: 81,5 cm. Blade length: 68 cm. Width at the ricasso: 2,9 cm.
The Dutch M 1818 No.2 Marine boarding sword was a Dutch assembled M 1803 French briquet. It differs from the Dutch M 1819 infantry short sword in details. It has a curved fullered heavy blade and not a plain straight blade. There is no acorn final on the guillon.
These are quite rare and hard to find.
