M 1813, No.1, (English Pattern M 1796). Superb curved fullered bright finished heavy blade. Leather washer intact. The blade spine is marked with a (very hard to read!) The crossguard shows an English rack number: 366. Excellent bright finished steel hilt with stirrup hand guard and forward swept quillon. Quillon is marked with a Dutch Unit number: J over 323  (= Regiment: Mounted Jaeger= Regiment:  Jagers te Paard) Excellent+  ribbed wooden grip covered with black horse leather.
Sword knot slit in top of the guard. Back of the hilt with ears and steel pins. Steel crossguard with languets on both sides.
Excellent all steel scabbard with a Dutch Unit marking: J over 113 and two loose hanging rings. No dents, some very light user spurs only.

Length of the sword ca. 96 cm. Width at the ricasso 3,9 cm. Weight, including scabbard: Ca. 2,0 Kg.!

Very impressive and heavy Dutch (Napoleonic era) troopers sword. These swords were made either in England or in Germany and purchased by the Dutch King and supplied to his army prior to the battles of Quatre Bras and Waterloo! and used against the troops of the French empire Napoleon Bonaparte. This one was made in England (M1796) and it is more than very possible, this one has seen action at Waterloo!

A very heavy and rare Dutch Napoleonic time frame sword. Purchased in England and issued to Dutch Dragoons and Huzars Regiments and used on the battle field of Quatre Bras and Waterloo in 1815 and later (1830) against the Belgium rebels.
This seldom seen English/Dutch sword is in an Excellent++ condition.

This sword was part of the collection of the The Rijksmuseum of Amsterdam, The Netherlands. It was sold in an international auction in 2020.
Very nice example!
