Nederlands marine officierssabel M 1882 "Sabel luitenant ter zee" Vroeg model/ Dutch early M 1882 naval officers sword, early model.
Beautiful bright finished heavy pipe back blade, very deep etched in panels on both sides and on the blade spine. The panels have different motives. One panel shows a Man O'war and a fouled anchor (No Crown!)and the other panel shows a steamer and a fouled anchor (No Crown!). Etched blade spine with Dutch a crisp retailers name: P. MANSVELD & ZOON, 's GRAVENHAGE .
Blade is marked Yzerhouwer on one side and the German makers trademark: Knight helmet (= Kirschbaum -Solingen) on the reverse side. (This logo was used from 1854).
Intact white leather washer. Brass lion head hilt, the brass hand guard pierced with a fouled anchor under a crown and floral motives. The white ribbed ivory grip is in an excellent condition and retains all his brass wire winding.
Brass mounted black leather scabbard with clear tooling in a perfect condition. Mounts are fixed to the scabbard by screws. All stitches intact and no dents to the fittings.
Comes with its genuine and old silver Flag officer sword knot with an orange core. The rare sword knot is in an excellent condition.

This model was introduced in 1882 and is still carried, but in a more modern configuration, by Dutch Naval officers. This is a very early one with a beautiful very deep etched blade and an ivory grip.
This example was made around 1890. On this blade there is no crown over the fouled anchor, what you see on later made blades
Beautiful early piece! These are really hard to find, special in this condition.
