Captured France M 1866 Chassepot rifle. Excellent long bright finished fullered yatagan blade with 2 French inspection markings on the ricasso. Blade spine is crisp marked by the French maker and dated: M're Imp'ale de Mutzig julliet. 1869. (= Made at the Imperial factory of Mutzig, July. 1869) Excellent brass grip with external spring. Bright finished crossguard and muzzle ring MRD 17.5 mm and quillon with three crisp French inspector markings. Left crossguard is German unit marked: 4. G. G. L. II. 1. 60 (= 4th Garde Grenadier Landwehr Regiment, Königin Augusta Berlin, Second Batallion, First Kompagnie, rifle No. 60.

Excellent German used French M 1866 with very interesting unit marking. Made in 1869, so this bayonet must have been used by the French and captured during the French-German war of 1870-1871
