English No.4 MK II* socket bayonet by P.S.& S.Ltd , (ABCN34)(K4)(JN61-1)
Lee Enfield 303. No.4 rifle. Excellent crudely made parkerized socket and parkerized finished round blade with pencil tip. Bayonet is made from two pieces of steel. Excellent blade tip. Socket is marked: No.4 MK II*, and British makers logo: P.S.& S. Ltd (= Prince - Smith & Stells, Keighly, Yorkshire)
The front of the socked is marked in large digits: 56.(= dispersal code voor P.S.& S.ltd) The lock is marked S in a box
Comes with the rare and experimental MkII steel tubular scabbard crisp marked S 191 on the tip (= dispersal code for Franco-British Electrical Company, Tempel Park, Hurley, UK.) Excellent blued example with an alloy throat marked W in a circle and /|\.
P.S.&.S Ltd from Keighly, Yorkshire made 1.057.515 No.4 MkII* socket bayonets between 1942 and 1945.
The Franco-British Electrical Company, Tempel Park, Hurley. only made 25.000 tubular scabbards, all in 1944 (Also see JN 60-3 for the scabbard)
