British Lee Enfield (SMLE) No.7 rifle. Serial number: 39 Matching! Second model. Excellent++ parkerized fullered blade. First 1,5 cm blackened. Ricasso is crisp marked: Crown over G.R. over 1907 and date 5'18 and with the English makers name: WILKINSON. There are three more issue dates: '25, '29, '33 and three Enfield inspection markings. Four Enfield inspection marks more on reverse side of the ricasso and a /I\ and X. and another '18. Excellent walnut grips secured to the blade tang by to screw bolts. Right grip is marked Y over 5. Excellent parkerized pommel and crossguard with muzzle ring MRD 15.4 mm. Oil hole in pommel. Pommel is unit marked: O.T.C. over A.M.P. over 39 (= Officer Training Corps at Ampleforth College. Rifle 39)
Excellent black leather scabbard with blued top mount and chape. Top mount is Enfield marked: /I\ over EFD near the staple. Throat with matching serial number: 39. W and /I\ EFD on the leather body. Round frog stud with three rivets.
The Ampleforth College CCF in North Yorkshire was formed in 1911 as an Officer Training Corps. It stayed this way until 1940 when the name changed to the Junior Training Corps and Air Training Corps. These were the combination of the two remaining sections of the Army and the Royal Air Force. In 1948 the name changed again to what it is now: The Combined Cadet Force.
