English M 1887 Mk IV bayonet (ABCN1256)(K374)(JN54-3)
Martini-Henry rifle. Superb bright finished fullered blade with a short fuller and a long false edge, marked on the ricasso with a faint date: / 8 over a crisp conversion date: C '91. The reverse side is marked /I\ over WD. X, an Enfield inspection marking: Crown over E over 9. and a crossed out E M. (=Enfield Martini) Bright finished pommel with no oil hole and press stud with a cap. Cap is marked /I\ over WD. External spring fixed to the pommel by a screw. Bright finished crossguard with a quillon and a forward placed muzzle ring. MRD 18 mm. Blade tang is marked: Crown over E over 59 and L. Excellent black checkered grips fixed to the blade tang by 4 steel rivets.
Excellent black leather standard M 1887 scabbard with bright finished mounts with no dents and all stitches intact. Some light user spurs only. Top mount with serial nummer: 9913 Olive chape frog stud.
This rare MKIV model is converted from a M 1886 MKI trial bayonet for the Enfield-Martini rifle (E M). Is is made from the hilt of the M 1886 MKI and the blade of a M 1887 MKI bayonet. This conversion was done in 1891 (C'91)
