Sardinian-Piedmont M 1845 Naval cutlass. Massive straight blade, fullered to the tip on both sides. German maker's logo; Bee hive - SOLINGEN (= Samual Hoppe-Solingen) in two rows on ricasso. The blade shows very thin "peppering" but is very smooth.
Excellent ribbed all metal grip with large hand guard with a lobbed quillon and sword knot slit. Pommel with tang button. Grip and handguard are totally painted black. This is usual and was done to protect the sword against the salt water on board of a battle ship. No scabbard.
Impressive piece! Not very common.
