Mauser M71 rifle/Mauser M71/84 rifle / Werder M1869 Rifle. Excellent bright finished fullered blade. German (Saxon) makers name and residence: E. WILHELM - SUHL crisp on the ricasso. Blade spine is crisp Prussian marked and dated: Crown over W. over '73 over a German inspection marking: Crown over a Gothic B. Excellent brass grip with a blued external spring. Back of the hilt shows spurs due to fixing the blade. Excellent bright finished steel crossguard with a quillon and muzzle ring. MRD 17,4 mm. Crossguard is unit marked: 9. R. 3. 136. (= Colbergsches Grenadier-Regiment Graf Gneisenau. (2.Pommerches) No. 9, Third battalion. Rifle Nb. 136. Home base: Stargard im Pommeren.) Crossguard is marked facing the blade with a Gothic inspection marking under a crown.
Excellent tooled black leather scabbard with brass fittings. No dents to the top mount, but some dents to the chape only. All stitches intact. Brass top mount is crisp unit marked: 36. R. 9. 183.(= Magdeburgisches Fusilier-Regiment General-Feldmarchall Graf Blumenthal Nb. 36., 9th. Battalion. Rifle Nb, 183 Home base: Halle a.S. and Bernburg). Throat is double marked: Crown over B / Crown over P. Chape is marked: Crown over P.
