German M1884/98 bayonet.Third model made by Diamant '37 only and i '41 marked scabbard! (ABCN455)(K143)(JN100-2)

Mauser M 84/98 carbine. Serial number: 5362 b on the ricasso. Excellent fullered blued blade. German maker's name Diamant (only!) on ricasso. Date '37 on blade spine. Short false edge. Excellent blued pommel and crossguard. Two early "droopwing" 218 waffenambt stamps on pommel. Excellent wooden grips secured to the blade by two screw bolts.
Excellent blued metal scabbard with no dents is not matching, but is marked:  i  '41  (= ELITE - Diamant 1941)  and has serial number: 8658

This early and very rare M84/98 high quality bayonet was made by a company called Diamant . It is made only in 1937. The blade is heavier than standard and the blade spine is more thick towards the tip. The false edge starts later and is much shorter. The blade has a more rounded and wider fuller.

In 1937 the first 30.000 bayonets from this company were marked Diamant only. Than this company was taken over by ELITE and the name was changed into ELITE-Diamant. 
This example is crisp marked Diamant on the ricasso. So Diamant only and not ELITE-Diamant which is more common. 

NOTE: The second M18/84 bayonet model from 1934 on, was first marked with a secret (S/) code. This code were replaced in 1937-40/41 when manufacturers names were used with the date on the blade spine. These codes were replaced again in 1940 when another new letter code was introduced.. 

From 1934 the secret code of Diamant was S/185. This was replaced and used in 1937 only by the manufacturer name: Diamant. In 1938 it became: ELITE-Diamant.
In 1941 only the letter code of ELITE- Diamant was simply changed to : i 

The scabbard is rare marked: i over '41. The letter code of ELITE- Diamant. It was used in 1941 only.!
