French made steel ersatz scabbard for a captured Russian M 1891 socket bayonet.(ABCN 817-a)
Russian M 1891 Mosin-Nagant rifle. France made blued steel scabbard, made from an altered Lebel scabbard.
During WWI, France made a certain number of blued steel scabbards for the France made M 1891 Mosin Nagant socket bayonets. These were not only used on the France made bayonets, but also on captured Russian socket bayonets. Be course the Russians did not make scabbards with their socket bayonets, (the bayonets were permanent fixed to the rifles), Austrians and Germans made their own ersatz scabbards.
This scabbard is typical France and can be told by its France style loop frog stud.
Total Length: 445 mm.
