Belgian Mauser M 1889 rifle, rifle Cal. 7.65. Number: A 840 on crossguard. Home Guard district: A (= Antwerpen. Antwerp. ). Excellent- bright finished fullered mid length blade. (300 cm.) Belgium inspection marking: FD under a crown in a trilob on the ricasso and V in a box inspection mark on the blade spine. Bright finished pommel and crossguard with forward swept guillon, marked V in a box. Catch with a V mark in a box. Crossguard is marked: A 840 Muzzle ring MRD 17.5 mm. Excellent wooden grips secured by two screw bolts.
No scabbard.
The prefix stands for a town. In this case the A marking stands for Antwerp.
This very rare mid-length version, with a blade length of 300 mm was used by the Belgian Home Guard (Civil Guard) only. Seldom encountered model!
