No rifle, side arm. M 1878 First type. Serial number 349 on ricasso. Superb bright finished blade with no sawback!. Blade is on one side fullered only. German maker's name; WEYERSBERG-KIRSCHBAUM- SOLINGEN over a large Swiss cross marking in a circle on the ricasso. A serial number 349 and the date '79 on the reverse side. Bright polished pommel with no mortise slot, no spring and no press stud. Brown checkered composite grips secured to the tang by 4 rivets and a large rivet in de middle. Crossguard with two even quillons on both sides of the crossguard and no muzzle ring.
Excellent++ brown leather scabbard with all stitches intact and no dents to the bright finished steel fittings. Chape is riveted with two rivets and has two pairs of double lines. Throat is marked with a 6 (or 9)
Excellent brown leather frog with makers name: J.HOLDEREGGER-TEUFEN in a box and same date as bayonet: Febr. (18-)79 on the reverse side. Top of frog is stamped with a Swiss cross over a W.
Very rare and beautiful side arm without a saw back! This is the first one we have ever encountered. Made in very limited numbers and was used by Prison guards and NCO's !
