Mauser K98k. Serial number: C 8468 on the ricasso. Excellent rough finished fullered parkerized blade showing clear manufacturing spurs. Rare German maker's code and date: CLC 44 (= Richard Abr. Herder AG. 1944) crisp on the ricasso and a serial number on the reverse side. Excellent parkerized pommel and crossguard. Most of the poor parkerization is worn off. No Waffenambt markings on pommel.
Excellent dark red grips, secured to the tang by two screw bolts. Very good flash guard with no dents, but some light peppering only.
Excellent blued steel non-matching scabbard with serial number: C 5483 and marked: CLC 44 . No dents to the scabbard.
A typical and rare "Last Ditch" bayonet from a rare maker. Very rough finished blade, late red grips and no Waffenambt markings.
In the last months of WWII, due to a lack of materials and destroyed factories, the German industrie was not able to do production and finishing of their weapons well, resulting in these "Last Ditch" arms.
This one must have been produced in December 1944.
Very nice and interesting M84/98 Last model!
