"Nederlands scheepssabel No.2, M 1818 "/ Dutch M 1818 Naval boarding sword No.2. Excellent++ bright finished very heavy curved fullered blade. The left ricasso is marked with a large S.
Excellent one piece cast brass hilt with a single hand guard and a guillon with a short ball shaped finial. Ribbed grip. Crossguard is faint marked with a Dutch inspection marking: Crown over D. The hand guard is marked with a crisp Dutch inspection marking: Crown over D.
No scabbard
The Dutch M 1818 No.2 Naval boarding sword was a Dutch assembled M 1803 French briquet. It differs from the Dutch M 1819 infantry short sword in details. It has a curved fullered heavy blade and not a plain straight blade. There is no acorn final on the guillon. Early type, later types are less heavy.
Total length: 81 cm. Width at the ricasso: 3,6 cm
These are quite rare and hard to find.
