Minty double edged nickel plated blade with the German maker's name and trademark: CARL EICKHORN-SOLINGEN and a sitting squirrel on the ricasso. White felt washer intact. Beautiful one piece cylindric black ribbed grip with a double twisted brass wire winding. It has a gilt open pommel as the Dutch Royal Crown and a gilt crossguard as a flying eagle. There is a scabbard release button on the reverse side of the crossguard. Excellent black leather scabbard with gilt fittings and two loose hanging rings.
The set is complete with its genuine black patent leather carrying straps with brass buckles.
A very nice Dutch Royal Air Force dirk. This particular example still has 100 % of the gilt intact.
This dirk is a unique design of the Dutch military artist: J. F. H. Th. (Frans) Smits, and produced in a very limited number only in 1961.
Mr. J. F. H. Th. Smits ( 1915 - 2006) was also the designer of the Dutch M 1955 Royal Dutch Air Force officers sword, the M 1966 State Police Chief officers sword and the M 1961 Municipal police chief officers sword.
