"Nederlandse Marine adelborst ponjaard M 1888" / Dutch Naval Midshipman's dirk M 1888. Minty double-edged blade with beautiful etchings on both sides: Two fouled anchors and dolphins on both sides. German maker's trademark and name: Kings head and Knight helmet over W.K.C. over Germany over EST. 1883 (= Weyersberg & Kirschbaum -Solingen) in three lines on the ricasso. Detachable gilt hilt with gilt crossguard and pommel. Excellent one piece white celluloid grip and gilt mounts. Anchor on the crossguard. Excellent gilt brass scabbard engraved with an anchor and folicate pannels, with two loose hanging rings. No dents to the scabbard.
It comes with its Minty gilt belt chain with hanging hook and its black leather belt with brass lion head buckle.
Total length dagger: 35 cm.
This Naval Midshipman's dirk was introduced in 1888 and is still in use nowadays.
