"Gemeente Politieagent sabel, rond 1900". / Dutch municipal police constable short sword around 1900. Serial number: 307 on the crossguard.
Excellent slightly curved bright finished fullered blade. Sharp tip, not blunted. Excellent masive Berlin- Silver grip with 6 ribs, a knucklebow and a single side bar. Crossguard with a swept forward quillon.
Excellent typical Dutch style tooled black leather scabbard. All stitches intact. Berlin - Silver top mount with an acorn shape frog stud and a Berlin - Silver chape with ball tip, both marked: 26. There is a very small dent to the front of the chape only.
Dutch Municipal Police constable swords were used from 1850 - 1950. There are many variations. This particular example was made around 1900.
These were special made by both the Solinger companies Carl Eickhorn and Weyersberg-Kirschbaum for the Netherlands only. No maker marking, but this one, with its fullered blade, is shown in the Eickhorn Katalog of 1935. "SABELS VOOR NEDERLAND EN KOLONIEN". Page 9.
The model made by WKC has no fuller.
