Dutch M 1819 No.2 infantry troopers short sword. 1835 dated and Unit marked. (JP 74-108)
Nederlands M 1819 No.2 Infanterie manschapssabel. / Dutch M 1819 No.2 Infantry troopers short sword. Excellent bright finished plain blade. Blade shows some field sharpening to the blade edge and some light stains only, but no pitting. Leather washer intact. Ricasso is dated: 1835 and marked with a tiny Dutch inspection marking: Crown over D in a circle. Unreadable blade spine marking. Excellent+ one piece cast brass hilt with a steel pin in the ribbed grip. Single knuckle guard and a short guillon with no achorn. Back of the grip is Unit marked: A large 5 besides a Large A in a box over 503. Knuckle guard is marked with 2 faint inspection markings: JW(?) and a Crown over D in a circle.
Comes with its Excellent- black leather scabbard with an intact black collar and a retaining strap. The leather is fine but shows wear to the chape. All stitches and the retaining strap are intact. Internal steel chape is intact.
The M 1819 No. 2 infantry short sword was a Dutch produced edged weapon with clear influence of the French M 1801 briquet.
A Dutch M 1819 short sword can be identified by the steel pin in the grip. Hard to find with an early scabbard
