Superb curved and bright finished heavy fullered blade. marked on the ricasso: G. A. Intact leather washer.
Excellent and large brass hilt with a brass pommel. Brass hilt back strap with wings holding the grip and fixed by a bright polished steel rivet. 3 brass bars hand guard. CP in an oval and a Dutch inspector marking: Crown over F. are stamped on the main guard. Excellent intact black leather covered ribbed wooden grip. The quilon has a serial number: 1132
Excellent and correct all steel scabbard with two loose hanging rings and no dents. It has a serial number: 1135 and is dated: 1831. In the part between the second hanging ring and the drag there are spots of light surface peppering. Drag is marked S & K.
A very large and rare Dutch Cavalry troopers sword in an excellent condition. The M 1814 No.3 model was a complete new Dutch design. It saw service in the Dutch 10 days campaign of the Belgium Revolution in 1831. It was used by the Light and Horse Cavalry till 1845 and by the Horse Artillery till 1880.
After the Belgian Revolution, the same sword saw service in train batallions of the Belgian army.
