Dutch Heavy Cavalry (HC) troopers sword M 1814 No.3. (JP 77. Picture 133. Fig.1.)
"Nederlands zware cavalerie manschappen sabel, Model No.3, M 1814 "/ Dutch Heavy Cavalry (HC) troopers sword M 1814, Model No.3. Excellent straight double fullered blade with clip point. Intact leather washer. The ricasso is dated: 1823 and Crown over W. Spine is marked: Crown over JP. (=Inspector Jean Joseph Peck). Brass hilt with brass hand guard and 3 side bars and a brass pommel. Hand guard is marked: Crown over W. on the side bar. Front of the crossguard is marked: Crown over JP. Round wooden grip is covered with excellent dark brown horse leather and an intact brass twisted wire winding.
Excellent all steel bright finished straight scabbard with two loose hanging rings. Some user spurs, but no dents. Drag is marked: WH and on the reverse: NS.
Length of the sword: 115 cm. Width at the ricasso: 3,5 cm. Weight incl. scabbard: Ca. 2.4 Kg!
Very impressive and very heavy Dutch HC troopers sword. These swords were made in Solingen-Germany and purchased by the Dutch King William I and supplied to his army to be used on the battle field of Waterloo! against the troops of the French empire Napoleon Bonaparte.
Later these swords were used during the Belgian conflict in 1830.
A very heavy and rare Dutch sword, issued to Dutch Heavy Dragoons Regiments (Zware Dragonders/Kurassiers) in an Excellent+ condition.
This sword was part of the collection of the The Rijksmuseum of Amsterdam, The Netherlands. It was sold during an International Auction on June 15, 2020 at Het Venduehuis der Notarissen in The Haque.
Very hard to find Dutch sword.!
