British Lee Enfield (SMLE) No.7 rifle. First pattern with hooked quillon and no oil hole in the pommel. Excellent bright finished blade. First 2 cm blackened. Ricasso is crisp marked with English makers name WILKINSON and Crown over ER over 1907 and very crisp dated: 1'09. More issue dates added; '10, '13, '14, Clear British (Enfield) inspection marks, /I\, X, Crown over U4 over E, Crown over KB over E, Crown over 14 over E. on reverse side of the ricasso. Excellent- blued pommel with muzzle ring and hooked quillon. MRD 16,5 mm. Pommel shows some light peppering only and is unit marked 2. L. F. over 317 (= Second battalion Lancashire Fusiliers, rifle 317. ) Excellent dark walnut grips. Left grip is stamped: Crown over 49 over W.
Excellent super rare MK1. London brown leather scabbard with a blued top mount with serial number: 180 on the throat. Top mount shows some light peppering only. Internal steel chape! Teardrop frog stud. Leather body is crisp marked: H.G.R.'08, /I\ and two Enfield inspection markings: Crown over 18 over E. All stitches intact and no dents to the fittings.
Comes with a genuine, Excellent and very rare khaki M1909 Mills Equipment Company (M.E.CO) frog as found, with 2 brass rivets and a short tool helve carrier strap with brass tip, faint stencilled on the reverse: M.E.CO. 1915 /I\ (Ref. Antony carter 117)
Beautiful early genuine No.7 bayonet set in an Excellent condition.
The 2nd Battalion landed at Boulogne as part of the 12th Brigade in the 4th Division in August 1914 and also saw action on the Western Front. Between November 1915 and February 1916, the brigade was part of 36th (Ulster) Division before returning to the 4th Division.[35][36]
