US M 1917 Navy cutlass. (Dutch Klewang M1941) made by VINCE for the Dutch KNIL. (Ref. Book 'Klewang" by J.P.Puipe)

US M 1917 Navy Cutlass / "Nederlands O.I. klewang M 1941"/ Dutch N.E.I klewang /cutlass M1941. Excellent- fosforized fullered klewang blade with a short clip point. There are some user spurs to the blade. The ricasso is US maker marked: VINCE (= Vince Fencing Equipment - 767 Broadway New York)  Hilt with a wide open blued/ blackened steel hand guard. Excellent two piece hickory wooden grip secured to the blade tang by three brass rivets. 
Excellent tooled light flexible brown leather scabbard with a blackened brass cuff and brass chape. Chape is fixed by 4 staples. Scabbard is stitched on the reverse side.). All stitches intact, and there is an internal retaining spring. Intact brown leather frog strap. 
Length 75 cm, Width 3,5 cm. 

Only 2.450 US M1917 Navy cutlasses were made for the Netherlands East Indies (KNIL) between 1941 and 1942 by VINCE and shipped to Java-Indonesia. It is not known if all klewangs arrived in time and before March 1942 (=Japanese occupation), since many were used by American soldiers in Australia.

VINCE made M 1941 cutlasses/klewangs are extremely rare and very hard to find. This example is in an Excellent- condition!
