Unknown European? Infantry officers spadroon, around 1800. (No. Ref.)
Unknown European Infantry Officers spadroon, around 1800. Excellent bright finished tapered double edged slim blade with a central rib. The edges of the blade show a couple of dings and user spurs only. Beautiful very well done etching, (same on the reverse side) showing a man's face with a big moustache and "sunburst hair" (=Sun sign?), a deep etched flower mark and a rampant horse in a oval on the ricasso. Followed by a star/flower mark in an oval, two short (6 cm.) fullers with fine symbols on the central rib and a final symbol on the double edged rest of the blade.
Excellent brass non-detachable hilt with an urn shape pommel and a bras knuckle guard. A ribbed silver colored oval grip and a crossguard with two bright polished steel fixed clam shells. Brass achorn shaped straight quillon.
Total length: 91 cm Width at he ricasso: 2 cm
This very nice officers sword shows strong European influenze and must be made around 1800 or somewhat later. We can not identify this blade. There is no maker/ retailers name on it and must be identified by the etching/ type of blade only.
We now say European, but it also can be South American.
If someone can help us identifying the blade, please let us know.
