German (Prussian) M 1871 NCO sawback bayonet by W. R. KIRSCHBAUM-SOLINGEN. Unit marked. (ABCN1230-1)(K367)(JN78-2)
German Mauser M 1871 rifle, M1871/74 and M 1888 Commission rifle. Superb bright finished fullered sawback blade. German maker's name: W.R. KIRSCHBAUM - SOLINGEN crisp on the ricasso. Blade spine is marked Crown over W over 75 and another German inspection marking.
Excellent brass grip with oblique grooves on the right side, secured to the blade tang by a steel rivet. The left side is plain and shows some user marks only. Pommel is marked with two German inspection marking. Blued external spring secured by a steel screw. Excellent bright finished steel crossguard with muzzle ring MRD 17,5 mm. Large German Inspection mark on the crossguard towards the blade: Crown over a Gothic marking. Finial on top of the muzzle ring and a back swept quillon. German unit marking on the left side of the crossguard: 23. R. R. 3. 6. (= 23th. Reserve Infanterie Regiment von Winterfeldt, Home base: Neisse. 3th. Battallion. rifle number: 6.
Excellent tooled black leather scabbard with all stitches intact and brass fittings with no dents. Both fittings are marked with crisp German inspection markings; Crown over B.
Scabbard top mount is marked with a not matching unit marking: 38. R. 2. 1. (= 38th Fusilier Regiment General-Feldmarschall Graf Moltke. Home base: Glatz. 2nd Battalion, rifle number: 1) and one more crossed out unit marking.
The M 1871 saw back bayonet was mainly issued to infantry NCO's and that was ca. 6% only of the German army.
