Description
German M 1888 Commission rifle and Mauser M 1898 rifle. Excellent bright finished British M 1853 triangular fullered socket blade with two faint German (Gothic ) inspection markings on ricasso. Feldgrau painted steel hilt with oil cleaning hole above the blade fixed with three rivets to the blade. T-O slot in pommel. Double diameter open muzzle ring.
Green painted tapered zinc scabbard with no serieus dents. Small brass frog stud and round final.
Total length 575 mm.
This is a very rare German ersatz socket (ESOC) bayonet, made during WWI from the blade of a British M 1853 Enfield made socket bayonet.
