German M 1898/05 aA. Fuss-Artillerie - Extra- Seitengewehr. (ABCN779-1)(K0)(JN-0)(AC 55)
German M 1898 Mauser rifle. Beautiful long fullered nickel plated straight blade (Not a butcher blade!) with a long ricasso marked with a Double squirrel logo with no C.E. (= Carl Eickhorn- Solingen 1906 - 1914)
Berlin silver plated M 1898 hilt with no flash guard. Pommel with T-O slot and a functional catch. Excellent wooden grips fixed to the blade by two plated screw bolts. No oil hole in grips. Berlin silver plated crossguard with backwards swept quillion. Total length 505 mm. Width at the ricasso 27 mm. Ca. 95 % of the plating is still intact. There are only a few scratches to the blade.
Excellent black leather scabbard with clear tooling and bright polished fittings with no dents. Top mount with German inspection markings.
Very unusual WWI dress bayonet inspired by the M 1898/05 aA bayonet. It has not an altered blade but a newly made straight blade with a long ricasso. No flash guard and no oil hole. Very interesting is also that the plating of the hilt is in Berlin silver and is not nickel plated. Described by Anthony Carter as: M 1898/05 aA Fuss-Artillerie Extra Seitengewehr in his book German Bayonets, Volume I, item 55. See last pics for a comparison with a standard M 98/05
Very rare and very interesting WWI dress bayonet!
