German M 1871 NCO sawback bayonet by COULEAUX & C0.-KLINGENTHAL. Unit marked. (ABCN1230-1)(K367)(JN78-2)
German Mauser M 1871 rifle, M1871/74 and M 1888 Commission rifle. Very good+ bright finished fullered sawback blade. German (Elzac) maker's name; COULEAUX & C.-KLINGENTHAL and a G. in three lines crisp on the ricasso. Blade shows several fine stains and spots of fine peppering only. Blade spine is marked Crown over W over 72 and another German inspection marking; Crown over B
Excellent brass grip with oblique grooves on the right side, secured to the blade tang by a steel rivet. The left side is plain. Blade tang with two German inspection markings. Blued external spring secured by a steel screw. German inspection marking on the pommel. Excellent bright finished steel crossguard with muzzle ring MRD 17,5 mm. Large German Inspection mark on the crossguard towards the blade: Crown over B. Finial on top of the muzzle ring and a back swept quillon. German unit marking on the left side of the crossguard: δ. M: 38. 36 (=Leichte Munitionkolonne { Light Muntion transport} 38th. Batallion, Rifle nb.: 36)
Very good black leather scabbard with all stitches intact and brass fittings with no serieus dents. Both fittings are marked with crisp German inspection markings; Crown over B. Also to the scabbard throat.
Scabbard top mount is marked with a not matching unit number: 81. R. 11.207 (= 81 Infanterie Regiment Landgraf Friedrich I, von Hessen-Cassel. Home base: Frankfurt a. M.)
The M 1871 sawback bayonet was mainly issued to infantry NCO's and that was ca. 6% only of the German army.
Rare sawback NCO bayonet. Hard to find, special the M 1871 models made by Couleaux&C-Klingenthal.
