German Mauser M 1898 rifle. M 1898 aA bayonet. Superb bright polished fullered pipe back blade with (unusual!) owners name: CARL MÜLLER on blade spine! German makers name: SIMSON & Co over SUHL on the ricasso. Blade spine is Saxony marked: Crown over AR '01 and Gothic inspection marking. Excellent bright polished pommel. T-O slot and crossguard with small backward swept quillon.
Crossguard is unit marked: 101. R. 7. 61 (= 2. Kgl. Sächs. Grenadier Regiment. No. 101. Kaiser Wilhelm, König von Preussen, Battallion 7 , Rifle no. 61. Home base: Dresden. )
Excellent ribbed one piece wooden grip, secured to the blade tang by two screw bolts. First screw bolt is abused and may be needs to be replaced. Oil hole in grip.
Perfect tooled black leather scabbard. All stitches intact. Bright polished fittings with no dents. Top mount is unit marked: 68. R.12. 130. (= Rheinisches Infanterie -Regiment No. 68, 12th Bataillon, rifle no. 130, Home base: Coblenz )
This is a beautiful issued functional Saxony used bayonet, after WWI bright polished and used by police or by veterans for parade.
